One of the biggest questions about the 2023 trade deadline is, “How can the Lakers get Kyrie Irving to Los Angeles?”. Now, with Irving set to become a free agent in less than a month, he has asked: “How can the Mavericks bring LeBron James to Dallas?”

According to The Athletic’s Shams Charania  , Irving contacted James to ask his opinion about joining the Mavericks. Bleacher Report’s Chris Haynes  further revealed that Irving wanted the Mavericks to research and create a new “Big Three” consisting of Irving, James and Luka Doncic.

It will be very difficult for the Mavericks to trade James. The 38-year-old star is receiving a salary of nearly $ 50 million / season at the Lakers and is still the number 1 player of the team. Not to mention the Mavericks don’t have many resources to make yet another blockbuster exchange.

However, the relationship between LeBron James and Kyrie Irving is also very interesting.

James played alongside Irving from 2014-2017 in Cleveland. The two led the Cavaliers to three consecutive NBA Finals and won the historic championship in 2016. James and Irving were the NBA’s best duo of the decade in 2010. However, the relationship was not always. Both are also good. And the climax was that Irving asked to leave because he did not want to be the shadow of his senior. The Cavaliers pushed him to the Boston Celtics after that.

It wasn’t until 2019 that Irving called James to apologize for his attitude during his final stay in Cleveland. James is said to “appreciate” that Irving took the initiative to contact him. The relationship between the two stars was then good again.

“Yes, we’re fine,”  James told The Athletic’s Joe Vardon  when asked about Irving’s call. “I like him now, I like the challenges he accepts and always wish Kyrie the best.”

When Irving asked to be traded by the Brooklyn Nets, James and the Lakers were the most enthusiastic. The 38-year-old star is looking for ways to reunite with Irving in the Lakers. But after all, the Nets chose the Mavericks offer.

“I can’t sit here and say I’m not disappointed not to have such a talent,” James told ESPN’s Michael Wilbon.

LeBron James’ relationship with Luka Doncic

James and Doncic have never played together, but they respect each other’s talents.

Ahead of the 2018/19 rookie season, Doncic revealed that he always  considers James his “idol” . The Lakers star also heaped praise on the Slovenian star after the match between the two teams in November 2019.

“You wouldn’t know who you could inspire on your journey,”  James told ESPN’s Doris Burke  . “And he will always hope that he can inspire the next generation. For me, I have always drawn my teammates to play for the purity of basketball, I was able to inspire a new generation. the kid isn’t even in America, and that’s pretty special.

We clearly see what Doncic can do. He can create chances, not only for himself but for his teammates, and rebounds as well. It’s playing for the love of basketball. He’s a player worth watching.”

Doncic has attended four All-Stars and as captain of the team in the All-Star Draft, James both chose Doncic on the team.

“I like the way he plays,” James said before the 2022 All-Star game. “I like everything about Doncic. The way he plays reminds me of myself.”
