Gomez and her former onscreen brother David Henrie will star in and serve as executive producers of the revival

Selena Gomez arrives at the Premiere Of "Lola" at Regency Bruin Theatre on February 03, 2024 in Los Angeles, California.

Selena Gomez is ready to dive back into the wizarding world.

On Friday, the 31-year-old actress and singer appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live and couldn’t help but smile as she was asked about the news of a Wizards of Waverly Place “reboot” — though she was quick to correct host Jimmy Kimmel on his wording.

“It’s not a reboot. It’s gonna be a different version, I guess,” she told Kimmel, 56, of the project, which she and David Henrie announced in January.

“It’s gonna be really fun. I was excited to bring the characters back,” she continued of the revival, which will see her and Henrie, 34, reprise their roles from the Disney Channel hit show, which aired from 2007 to 2012.

Gomez also affirmed on Kimmel that there will certainly be magic involved. “Well, yeah. I am the family wizard,” she exclaimed. “I’m excited for you guys to see it.”

While Gomez is slated to be just a guest star in the pilot episode as her beloved character Alex Russo, Henrie will reprise his role as Justin Russo as a series regular.

The revival was announced on Instagram in January by both Henrie and the official Disney Channel account, when both shared a photo of the script for the pilot episode.

“The Russo’s are excited to become a part of your family, once again, but we’ve grown 😊,” Henrie captioned his post. “2024, the year magic comes back! 🪄.”

At the time, Gomez reacted to the news by sharing a Deadline report about the show on her Instagram Story, writing that she was “so excited” alongside a heart emoji.

She then shared a throwback photo of her and Henrie from the Wizards of Waverly Place set with the caption, “We’re back.”

Gomez and her former onscreen brother serve as executive producers on the series, which is set to chronicle the aftermath of “a mysterious incident at WizTech, where an adult Justin Russo has left his wizard powers behind, opting for a normal, human life with his wife and two sons,” according to an official synopsis.

“But he gets a surprise when a powerful young wizard in need of training shows up at his door … and Justin must embrace his past to ensure the future of the Wizard World,” the synopsis continues.

Janice LeAnn Brown will star in the lead role of Billie, the powerful young wizard in need of training. Alkaio Thiele will play Justin’s oldest son, Roman, while Mimi Gianopulos will take on the role of Justin’s wife Giada.

Earlier this month, Henrie announced that filming had wrapped on the pilot episode of “the sequel” as he and other cast members signed their names on a set piece in an ode to a similar move from the original show.

“On the original series we signed our names on the back of the set right at the beginning of the show, and now on the sequel we’re doing the same! Can’t wait for the Russo’s to become apart of your family, once again,” he wrote.

Several eagle-eyed fans noticed that among the signatures was Max, with a message written below it that said, “Can’t wait for more wizardry!”

Jake T. Austin, who played the youngest Russo sibling in the original series, has not yet been confirmed to star in the new show, but the signature led many fans to suspect that he will be involved.

Henrie previously said of who would be returning for the sequel: “We definitely plan on bringing back the original cast for the series order 🙌❤️.”
