LeBron James passed Michael Jordan on the NBA all-time scoring list as the LA Lakers took on the Denver Nuggets on Wednesday night.

James went into the encounter trailing Jordan by 12 points – with the basketball legend boasting 32,292 career points.

That tally had him fourth on the all-time list but James tied midway through the second quarter.

The Lakers star then passed him and finished the game with an impressive 31 points, taking his overall career tally to 32,311.

Unfortunately for James, the record achievement came in a defeat as the Nuggets emerged victorious, winning 115-99.

James, 34, paid homage to the NBA legend during the match as he wore a pair of Nike LeBron 16s – re-designed in the style of the Air Jordan III.

Speaking earlier on Wednesday, he said: “I kind of take all accomplishments as they come, and anytime I’m in the breath of any of the greats and, obviously, MJ being the guy I looked up to my whole life, a guy I aspired to be when I was a kid and just, I think it’s going to be pretty cool

James is now just over 6,000 points away from the NBA record, held by Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.
