Klay Thompson pens heartfelt message to Golden State; Kevin Durant calls him a ‘Bay Area God’

Golden State legend Klay Thompson officially bid farewell to the Warriors in an Instagram post on Friday.

Thompson is joining the Dallas Mavericks after spending 11 seasons with the Warriors. In his message to the Bay Area, he expressed that he had the best times of his life in Golden State.

“Oh Bay Area, there are not enough words and images to convey how I really feel about yall. From the bottom of my heart, thank you so much for the best times of my life. It was such an honor to put that Dubs jersey on from day 1,” he said.

“I really just wanted to be the best I could be and help bring as many championships as possible to the region. The best part was not the rings though, it was the friendships I made that will last a lifetime.

His former teammate Kevin Durant commented, wishing him luck in his next chapter.

“A Bay Area God. One chapter closes, another one opens. Keep doing you, champ.”

Durant and Thompson were teammates on the Warriors from 2016-17 to 2018-19. They won two championships together, and their big three with Steph Curry is considered one of the greatest of all time. During his time with the Warriors, Klay Thompson averaged 19.6 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game. He was selected for five All-Star games and won four NBA championships.
