Stephen Curry’s Mom, Sonya, Speaks Out On Harassment From NBA Fans

Steph Curry is one of the most popular players in the NBA and one of the sport of basketball’s all-time greats.

However, all of Curry’s talent and accomplishments don’t make him universally beloved. The Golden State Warriors superstar still hears jeers from opposing crowds, and even his family in the stands are not immune to taunting.

In a recent episode of her “Raising Fame” podcast with Shaquille O’Neal’s mother Lucille, Steph’s mom Sonya Curry discussed some of the difficulties of being in the building when people are hurling insults at her son.

“The worst is in the stands when people are yelling like just, derogatory things, against your kids,” Sonya Curry said, via Athlon Sports. “To a certain point, you go, ‘They’re just… let it go.’ But then they get really, really nasty, and then they get right behind you.”

Later, Sonya touched on an incident in Cleveland. While attending a game with her mother, Candy Adams, fans began getting nasty.

“My mom… this game in Cleveland, and then they were saying the same, knew that she was his grandmother, and was just ripping him like… and my mom does not know to hold her tongue, and the security people had to come up because she will fight you. I’m not even joking, she will fight,” Sonya explained.

Steph Curry can give it to the crowd as good as he gets it. Look no further than his trademark “night, night” celebration.

However, it definitely seems like it can be easier for him to deal with disapproving fans while on the court than it is for his family sitting in the stands.
